Skin reactions, skin care and important facts Electrolysis is a safe treatment with minimal reactions. Reactions may occur where the probe has entered the hair follicle, or where the electrode pad has been placed on the body. The skin may feel slightly sensitive, or look swollen or red. These symptoms usually dissipate within 24 hours.
Redness and Swelling Is a normal histamine response after a treatment and will usually calm after a few hours. To reduce the swelling, apply an ice pack to the area for 2 to 10 minutes and then apply a thick layer of Melfol Calm Balm on the area, leaving on for at least 2 hours post treatment
What to do if you have a reaction at the electrode site If the area remains irritated for more than 24 hours, talk to your pharmacist for advice, and they may suggest the use mild steroid cream such as hydrocortisone 0.5% (eg: Dermaid Cream by Ego Pharmaceuticals).
Scabbing- this is very common and part of the skins natural healing process. It is crucial to not to pick or remove the scabs as this may cause infection, scarring and will slow the skins healing.
What to avoid until scabs are healed Serums & Moisturisers, Exfoliators, Retinoids, AHAs, Laser /IPL, Facial treatments.
Once scabs are healed it’s important to keep the skin healthy with good skin care regime that includes regular cleansing, moisturising, exfoliation and daily sun protection.
Bruising can occur when a probe hits the capillary wall, this can happen if the skin is vascular, or the hair follicle is fragile. Apply Arnica ointment on the area to support healing.
